Lights, Camera, Action - 9 Super Tips to Making Videos to Promote Your Business

Creating promotional videos to highlight your online business can be a very effective way of driving good quality traffic to your website. Most importantly, creating videos allows possible business prospects to see or hear the person behind the business, which makes you and your business more reputable. To top it off, it's absolutely free!

Making videos is very simple and is something that everyone can and should do to promote their online business. There are people that are using video advertising as a primary means of building their business and profiting handsomely. But there are few important things that you should take into consideration to make the best videos that you can. Here, I will go through some tips on how to make a quality video that people will want to watch and will in turn drive more traffic to your site.

1. Get A Camera

This might seem like a no brainer but it's an important step. You can use anything from a web cam, a digital video camera, or even a cell phone. Most digital still cameras have a function where you can record clips of video, so you can try using that as well. You don't have to break the bank to make videos, be creative and use what you have and see what works the best for you.

2. Know What You're Going To Say

It's very important that you have an idea of what you want to get across in the video. Whether it is a story that you want to tell or a straightforward explanation of your product, site of service. Create a simple outline that you can follow along with. Creating a full script and reading it from will make a boring video. If you need to, practice going through your outline a couple of times and then just go for it.

3. Sufficient Lighting Is Key

If you're creating a video of yourself instead of a video screen capture, make sure you have sufficient lighting. Trying to make quick videos I've been guilty of using insufficient lighting, but take a minute to test your lighting situation. Make sure your viewer can see your face and look into your eyes as you talk. It will make the video much more personal as well as a heck of a lot easier to watch.

4. Be Creative

There's nothing wrong with a good informational video that gives the details of your business or tells a little something about yourself. But don't be afraid to be creative. You know what you like when you see a t.v. commercial or someone else's video, run with it. Do something fun or stupid, captivate people and make them want to keep watching.

A creative video will only bring more plays and more hits to your site. Also, a pitch is no good if people don't bother get to the end to get your link or hear most of what you have to say. Get them watching and then make them want to continue to watch, and maybe they'll even come back for more.

5. Don't Babble On, Keep It Short

This isn't a steadfast rule, but for the most part keep your video relatively short. I'm talking 3 minutes or less. People really don't have the attention span to sit around and wait for you to get to the point. Be concise and stay on topic (another great reason to have an outline). If you have a lot to cover make a video series and break up your info into more detailed pieces.

6. Don't Forget Your Link

Whatever you do, don't forget your link! That's really the whole point of the video isn't it? Personally, I like to flash the link a couple of times through the video and at the end. If you don't have the software, don't worry. Do something simple like write your name on a piece of paper or cardboard and hold it up. You may want to avoid the grease stained pizza box cardboard, that's kind of nasty. But the point is to get your link out there, and it will do the job. Also make sure to make a clickable link in the description box and point it out to make it even easier for people to visit your site.

7. Keep Reading For the Meaning of Life

That title made you want to keep reading didn't it? It at least made you think, "huh?" and you kept reading. It's no different for a video title. Encourage people to watch by creating an intriguing title. I don't mean something random like my example, but apply it to your business, make it interesting and make people want to click on your video.

8. Post to Multiple Sites

Why post to one site when you could post to a dozen? YouTube is a great site and is one of the most viewed sites on the web, so that's a given. But there are hundreds of other video sites on the Internet that each have their own following. Posting your video to all these sites will only give you and your site more exposure.

You're probably thinking, "That'll take a year to post to all those sites." Yeah, it would. That's why sites like TubeMogul.com are great. They will post to up to 22 video sites simultaneously, depending on your video content. They'll even track your views and help your promote, all for free!

9. Rinse and Repeat

Keep the videos coming. Build a large catalog of videos, get people to subscribe and want to come back for more. Building a big library of videos is going to make you even more reputable and make you even more visible. Meaning what? That's right, more hits to your site.

So what are you waiting for? Get going on making videos. You've taken the time to read to the bottom of this far too long article so you probably have the desire to get promoting and make this work. You most definitely can make it work and in turn, get a lot of great traffic to your site and hopefully quite a bit of extra money in your pocket.
