How to Add a Different Perspective to Your Blog - Interviews and Guest Posts

As an experienced blogger I have learned over time what works well and what does not work so well for my blogs. Knowing the audience of a blog and serving them well is the key factor for becoming successful as blogger in terms of traffic, loyal readers, influence, and monetization.

You need to write for a specific topic, for a specific audience, and you need to be congruent with their expectations, desires, and needs.

A blog allows for interaction between the author and the readers. This is great and helps to steer your blog in the right direction.

Providing the information that helps your readers is essential, but you should not plainly copy what other bloggers in your field are doing. No one needs the 1,678th blog about email marketing that feels, looks, and reads the same as all others.

Today I suggest that you give your blog a little twist. A twist that makes it remarkable and outstanding. I learned from the best selling author Seth Godin that "remarkable" means "worth making a remark about." Are people talking and writing about your blog?

Give them a reason to talk about your blog.

Allow authorities in your field to contribute to your blog. This will bring in some fresh "air", will organically create some cross-linking between your blog and others, and your readers will enjoy it. Let me tell you several ways -- by no means all -- how you can do this. It actually comes down to only two methods in this today's post.

* Interviews
* Guest Authors

Interviews

You simply publish the transcript of an interview or publish the audio or even audio and video. This is a very powerful technique for high quality content creation. Do research on what questions your audience is most interested in. Look in forums or ask them directly in a simply web form. For example:

"I have scheduled to interview {name_of_expert}, who is... What question would you like to ask him? Let me know. Just put in your question and email address. I will let you know about the further details. You do not want to miss this."

By doing it that way you can build a very targeted sub-list for your future email campaigns at the same time.

When it comes to the interview itself, you can do it many different ways.

* Record a phone conversation

* Meet the person and record the audio and possibly video, too.

* Send questions by email, get answers by email.

Choose a multimedia format, at least audio, if you can. It will be perceived as much more valuable and trustworthy.

Don't worry about the technical aspects. Search in Google, Yahoo, or Live for "how to record an interview" or a similar search term.

Once this part is done and the interview is published on your blog you always can re-use it and even sell it together with your interview partner, if you like to do so.

Guest Authors

The second method is even more easy to handle. You invite another blogger to write a guest post on your blog. Occasionally you will find reputable bloggers offering to write a guest post for you. It's about exchanging, getting exposed, building and expanding communities, and sometimes, it is about money. Why not? Many businesses pay for content on their sites one way or another. Why should blogs be the exception. You might have some writers contracted already that contribute on a regular basis to your blog content. Sometime you can let in someone "fresh".

The best way to get to be known by other bloggers is by adding value to their blog posts. Write value-adding comments. Write about their blog posts and add a thought from a different corner of the room. Interact with them in a non-spammy way on social media platforms. Offer them something, ask them what you could do for time. Be patient.

Do you get the picture? Start twisting your blog today.
