I've discussed the complications and technicalities behind custom fitting at length, so hopefully we all understand just how difficult a process it really is; and that's before we add another factor: GROWTH. So, before you head out to buy a set of junior Irons here's a few things for you to consider...
Junior clubs are generally designed for children under the age of ten who are of a certain height. They are made shorter, lighter and with higher lofts so that the child can get the ball into the air as easily as possible. If your child is older than ten and has some experience in the game it would be more beneficial to get an adult set of clubs that are fitted correctly preferably ladies clubs which are shorter than standard and lighter than men's clubs. It is always better to book a lesson for your child before buying golf equipment as the make up and specification can be chosen correctly.
WHY CUTTING DOWN SHAFTS ON YOUR OLD CLUBS WON'T WORK
Every shaft has been designed with certain flex points. By cutting down the shaft, you may potentially remove the flex point making the shaft too stiff. This will also change the swing weight of the whole club making it harder for your child to use.
The junior sets of today allow youngsters to develop the correct skills and a technical base from which they can become tomorrow's 'Tigers'.
So if you'd like to fully unleash your child's potential and buy the correct Golf equipment, make sure you visit your local PGA Golf professional for expert advice and guidance.
