Snowboarding Equipment - Selecting the Right Kind!

Having the right snowboarding equipment is essential too having fun on the mountain. The essential gear for snowboarding are as follows: Snowboard, Boots, Bindings, Gloves, Goggles, Snowboard Jacket and Pants. A helmet is recommended, but not required. OK...so the necessary gear for snowboarding is obvious, but what might not be so obvious is selecting the RIGHT snowboarding equipment for you and where you plan on riding.

The first is your snowboard. A snowboard doesn't know how tall you are or how good you are, but only your weight. Too find the best sized snowboard stand it on its tail and measure where it comes to on you. If it comes between your collar bone and chin, then it is going to be easier to turn (which is good for a beginner) but it will not be as stable at higher speeds (which will probably not be an issue for a beginner). A board that measures between your chin and nose is an average sized board, meaning that it can be ridden in most conditions and styles, from powder to doing tricks in the park, but might be a little too big and stiff for a beginner. A board that is above your nose in length is good for riding deep powder because it will help you float above the snow. A longer board is not recommended for a beginner. Before you select your board make sure you first consider your weight, your riding abilities, and the conditions that you will be riding in.

Selecting boots and bindings are not as complicated if you are a beginner because you don't know what you like yet. Boots are either stiff, which are good for carving, going fast, riding through chunky snow, or boots are soft, which are good for doing tricks because of the extra movement allowed. Snowboard bindings use to be pretty standard, but now many companies are coming out with some new technologies. Some are good, some are too early to tell, but still bindings that feel nice and secure are usually the best pair for you.

The weather has a lot to do with the rest of your needed snowboarding equipment. Gloves, snowboarding jackets and pants, and goggles should be selected based on your average weather for your mountain. Different parts of the world make different kinds of snow. The main difference being the moisture level found in the snow and air. Wet snow requires more water proofing. Air with a lot of humidity will require warmer gear. Also when selecting your goggles make sure to think about the amount of sunshine you will be riding in. Sunny days require darker lenses, and cloudy days will require clear lenses or red lenses.

The right snowboarding equipment will be key to your success and enjoyment. Please take your time and read over this information.
